So You Want To Sell Your Butt Off Huh?

"ring ring"

telemarketer/salesperon "hello my name is uh uh umm and uhhh"

Ouch...Does that sound familiar? lol I know that when I first started doing telemarketing/sales, that was me! Straight up! I got on the phone for the first time thinking no problem, these guys can't see me, so who cares. Phone would ring....Customer would pick up...I'd forget my name!! Seriously..My name, couldn't think of it...Froze. Brain fart. Total blankness!

Almost every salesperson/telemarketer has done the SAME thing! I don't care what story they tell ya or how they hype it up. They have froze or been stumped at least once in their sales career. If they haven't then they haven't tried hard enough to be #1!

All of my former co-workers at all of my previous sales jobs will tell you, I'm one of the best. I can turn a mad customer into a buying customer. I could sell mud to someone in the swamps of Georgia! Why? How? What the secret? Am I lying or ripping these people off? Well the answer to that is: Why-because I care about peoples needs. How-show them you care. Secret- The secret is, there is no secret! And NO I'm not lying to or ripping these people off, that wouldn't make you one of the best.

Now what I'm talking about folks is.....get a pen and write this down..........NEEDS BASED SELLING. Now I know some of you have heard of this. But mine has a twist to it. A little something EXTRA, and as consumers we know we all like something EXTRA. So check it out..This is just an example of one situation and one little technique.

"ring ring"

"Hello, Mine name is Joe Hilton I'm calling with "XCorporation", the reason for my call today is because we have made some price and plan changes and we would like to review your account with you, just to make sure you are getting the best possible value or savings available to you"

Ok now that was my opener. It is very close to one you see in a lot of companies. But I've added some things. See this was for a phone company I worked for some time ago. The way they would have it though is :

"Hello, Mine name is Joe Hilton I'm calling with "XCorporation", the reason for my call today is because we have made some plan changes and we would like to review your account with you, just to make sure you are getting the best possible value for what your spending."

Similar yes..But talk a look at the differences. First off you just say "plan changes". Now thats great you've made plan changes. But some of these customers don't care about "plan" changes. They care about how much their plan is and what its costing them. They think when you just say "plan" that you PLAN on trying to sell them more services you came up with and jack their rate up...You don't want that in their head at all during the call. If it is in their head..GET IT OUT!!

Also you will notice that it just says "make sure you are getting the best possible value for what your spending". Again this goes back to what people really want to hear. They want SAVINGS SAVINGS SAVINGS!! Money is tight in America right now for most people, everyone knows that! You yourself reading this are reading this because you are probably broke looking to start a sales career or at least job to make some money! Well that's how these people are that you are calling. Half broke and want some damn savings! LOL

Okay, so we have established what? Oh yeah, PEOPLE WANT SAVINGS!! So, how do you go about doing this...EASY AS PIE! If we were to take the example about..Where I want to review their phone account with them to make sure they are getting the best VALUE AND SAVINGS. Lets just say that you get into their account and notice that they have the basic home phone with the 10 cents per min long distance, caller id, call waiting. Their total bill is $200. Yes people I've seen this! Anyways. As a salesperson for this company you know that you have a couple of plans available...

Basic home phone with 10 cents per min long distance, which is what they have.

Basic Home Phone With Voicemail (and all the features they currently have plus some) UNLIMITED long distance. for we will say $45.

Well its a no brainer..If you make a commission by selling this new Basic Home Phone Unlimited plan then pitch it to em. Thats what your company wants. But here is what your company REALLY wants you to do. See this is internet age. They want everyone to have internet. Even if you can't read, they want you to have the net. They don't want your bills to be lower. Thats just crazy. lol So...here is how I go about this...Get myself some extra "gravy" while still helping the customer...This is one of the tricks that made me #1 in sales at my last telemarketing job within 3 months of starting....

K..There bill you know was $200. So we want to come under this or at least right at that price, but sell them some products right..Sell them some big dog products. How about this one.

Sell them Basic Home Phone Unlimited Long Distance with INTERNET. for $90 reg price..special price of $75 per month for the first 12 months...Right there is One big dog Internet sale. And a Basic Home Phone Unlimited sale. 2 SALES 1 CALL! orrrrrrrr...

Basic Home Phone Unlimited Long Distance INTERNET AND 120 CHANNELS DISH TV! for only $150 per month after promotion. You just saved these people $50 Got 2 BIG DOG SALES! And one Basic Home Phone Unlimited sale..3 sales 1 call. GRRRRRREAT PAYCHECK!

You see its all "needs based". They need their phone. They probably already have tv but hey they NEED savings. They may not have a computer. OH WELL. I'm sure one of their friends has a laptop or one of their family members has one. How nice would it be to have it available to the people that come over and it costs you less by having it. NO BRAINER!

Well I hope you have learned a little something with my sales techniques. They are simple, basic, but EFFECTIVE!

Always make sure the person you talk to is building trust with you. Make sure they know that you care or at least are trying to show that you care. Make them feel valued. Don't lie to them or try and screw them. Respect them. Don't make them feel like just a number. If you follow what I say you will establish a trusting relationship with any customer or potential customer you talk to.
